From Liberal Icons to MAGA Champions: The Surprising Political Transformations of Hollywood's Elite

The world of celebrities is ever-changing, reflecting broader social and political shifts. Recently, a growing number of stars have made headlines for their embrace of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. This trend is noteworthy, especially when considering the past beliefs and actions of these celebrities, revealing a fascinating evolution in their political affiliations.

Nicki Minaj stands out as one of the most surprising figures to shift toward the MAGA camp. Despite being critical of Trump in the past, her transformation was marked by a bold declaration at a 2026 Trump Summit where she claimed to be his "number one fan." Minaj boasted about a Trump Gold Card, although her eligibility for citizenship as a longtime legal resident stirred discussions about her new allegiance. Reports indicate she has developed a friendship with conservative influencer Erika Kirk, further solidifying her connections within the MAGA community.

Zachary Levi also altered his political stance dramatically. During the 2016 election, Levi cautioned his followers against voting for either Trump or Hillary Clinton. However, he shifted his position in 2024 by officially endorsing Trump at a Michigan event after RFK Jr. exited the race. This about-face reflects a trend seen among other Hollywood figures who have progressively aligned themselves with Trump, often citing reasons related to rising crime rates and public health as motivators for their newfound conservative beliefs.

A similar transformation was observed with several actors and entertainers who once had a more liberal outlook. The Sopranos star, after voting for Joe Biden in 2020, aligned herself with MAGA ideologies citing her anti-vaccination stance and crime concerns. In an interview, she suggested an underground sentiment among Hollywood liberals favoring Trump instead of remaining loyal to their traditionally leftist views. “I know that I’ve gotten plenty of messages in my inbox: ‘Thank you for saying things I can’t say,’” she shared, shedding light on the perceived fear of speaking out among liberal peers in Tinseltown.

Mel Gibson also came into the spotlight as he announced his support for Trump during the 2024 election cycle. His endorsement came alongside controversial remarks about Kamala Harris. Trump recognized Gibson as one of his Hollywood ambassadors, signaling the director's shift from past criticisms to outright support. This embrace of MAGA allies mirrors similar journeys by other celebrities. Amber Rose, once vocally critical of the former president, transformed into one of his prominent advocates in pop culture, even attending rallies to support his campaign.

In the realm of music, Anuel AA, the Puerto Rican reggaeton star, made headlines by endorsing Trump during a rally aimed at mobilizing Hispanic voters. He described Trump as the best president, urging his fellow Puerto Ricans to unite behind the MAGA platform. Ray J’s journey to MAGA support reflects a more gradual shift; he wasn’t vocal about Trump initially but has since embraced the movement with public appearances in MAGA gear. This trend manifests across various celebrity spheres, including rising support from high-profile influencers and entertainers.

Notably, even those who had once been vocal critics of Trump have exhibited significant changes. Snoop Dogg, known for his past critical remarks about the former president, has seen his attitude shift, particularly after Trump pardoned an associate. In 2024, Snoop expressed a more favorable view, stating, “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me.” This sentiment indicates a willingness to overlook previous stances, placing personal benefits over political loyalty. Similarly, Tulsi Gabbard, who once condemned Trump’s policies, transitioned to MAGA, taking on a significant political role in his administration.

The move toward Trump isn't solely limited to established talents in Hollywood. Brittany Mahomes, wife of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, faced backlash for showing subtle support for Trump, reflecting how personal ties to the political realm can invoke mixed reactions in the public eye. Meanwhile, Cheryl Hines, linked to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has navigated her public persona amidst rumors of being a "MAGA wife," which has strained her Hollywood relationships while still allowing for her alignment with the conservative movement.

Even figures like Khalilah Ali, Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife, changed their views over time. After past criticisms related to Trump’s airport travel ban targeting Muslims, she publicly declared her support for the former president in 2024. Similarly, Antonio Brown, a former NFL star, vocally endorsed Trump during the campaign, joining rallies to rally support for the Republican Party. Le'Veon Bell, another former NFL player, also hinted at shifting political sentiments, stating he would consider leaving the country if Trump was not victorious.

The ongoing shift among these celebrities from their previously liberal or ambivalent standpoints to vocal support for Trump is emblematic of a larger trend. This phenomenon showcases how personal experiences, public sentiments, and political landscapes can dramatically influence individual beliefs within the entertainment industry. As these stars navigate their identities and roles in a polarized political atmosphere, they reflect the complexities of celebrity influence and the ongoing evolution of public opinion in America. Through endorsements, social media engagements, and public appearances, these figures are reshaping the dialogue around politics in Hollywood, revealing a new landscape where celebrity status often intersects with political advocacy.
