The initiative, led by Kim Furey, a program manager at SaskAbilities, has evolved from its original intent of helping children build familiarity with emergency service personnel into a broader celebration of community spirit.

Initially, Celebrity Day was conceived to introduce kids to first responders like EMS and firefighters, ensuring they recognize these professionals as friendly faces they can rely on in times of need. "It started as a way to help introduce EMS and emergency services personnel to help kiddos learn that when they're in need of support or help, that those are a friendly face," Furey explained. Over the years, the concept has blossomed, now featuring an engaging lineup of local celebrities, exciting activities, and opportunities for families to bond and have fun together.

This year’s Celebrity Day saw a fantastic turnout with prominent attendees, including Swift Current's own Mayor Al Bridal, enthusiastic members of the Swift Current Fire Department, and EMS personnel. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Innovation Credit Union's beloved mascot, Fat Cat, made a special appearance, spreading cheer and excitement among the young participants.
